Former Enugu Mission President and Serving Senior Missionary Die Due to COVID-19

The church has lost two great people in the persons of Brother Blair Garff and Elder Pace during this pandemic. One a former mission president who served in Nigeria Enugu Mission. The latter was still serving with his wife in the Michigan Detroit Mission since December 2019 as Senior Couple missionaries before his passing.

Brother Blair Garff died 19 April 2020. Prior to his death, brother Garff has been battling with the virus after he was diagnosed with the virus in March.

Brother Blair Garff served as mission president during his time in Nigeria Enugu Mission from 2006 to 2009. His other callings in the church were; president of the Manhattan New York Temple from 2010 to 2013, served as a Family Services missionary, mission president’s counselor, district president, bishop among many others.

His son Brain Garff posted a message on Facebook after the death of his death. He wrote;

Elder Allen Dee Pace died Saturday, April 18, after contracting the virus in early April. Elder was a senior missionary Willard, Utah,

Church spokesman Daniel Woodruff said, “He and his wife Sister Nedra Pace, had been serving in the Michigan Detroit Mission since December 2019, They had not yet been formally released from missionary service prior to his death.”

He continued by saying, “After becoming ill in mid-March, Elder Pace went into the care of his wife and daughter in a nearby state. He was diagnosed with COVID-19 in early April.”

“We express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Elder Pace as they mourn his passing, and we continue to pray for all who are impacted by this pandemic,”

  1. It is a hard blow to our church and the world,may the good lord comfort us and the family in this difficult times,may their journey be smooth and I know for sure they are happily returning to their maker with full accomplishment of the missionary work,rest well dearest.

    We felt you during this untimely death of your dad, May you will always be comforted by the spirit during these times of loosing one of the most important man in your life. I know he has done the best job on this world in serving as a mission president to the young missionaries. Surely he is resting from all his physical turmoil and starts a new life with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

  3. When I heard the death news of my Mission President, I was shell shocked. I couldn’t believe my ears and eyes. He was a great man, who lived and taught by example. He was charitable. My time with him in Nigeria Enugu Mission, are one of the best memories of my life.

  4. Brother Blair Garff was my Mission President and a good to my wife-now Mrs. Chinyere Ababio. A kind hearted and caring and loving father. His mortal life has ended but his good works done in mortality continues since his positive impacts in many continuous. I am who I am because of his counsels. President we shall meet again always at Jesus feet.

  5. I have not known Brother Garff but my good friend Chidi Ibeakudze who served as my counselor in the Nigeria?? Enugu Mission have been full of praises of this man at the time he served as a Mission President of the Nigeria Enugu Mission. From what I heard of him I knew he was a great man who loved his missionaries and all he worked with.
    He has just transited from the land of suffering to the land of living to continue his great work there.
    May you continue the great work you started here until the Great Lord would say the work is done.
